Laura Beatriz Nasceimento, 27 years old, became viral on social networks after revealing her fight against lung cancer, diagnosed by excessive use of electronic cigarettes. The young Brasiliense said he used the traditional cigarette for the first time at 15 years of age, as a way to socialize with a group of friends.

“I was very young and my first experience with nicotine was very sociable. I only smoked from time to time. In 2016, I bought my electronic cigarette and, after that, I started smoking every day, together with tobacco. In 2017 I stopped with electronic cigarettes and I smoked tobacco from time to time, when I left for the holidays,” he explained.

According to Laura, the first time he used Pod – a type of electronic cigarette less than vaporization – was in 2020. For four years, he interspersed the use of pod and vaporization. “What was released was that it was the less bad of the conventional cigarette and served to quit smoking. I wanted to try to quit smoking because I was an employee,” he said.

At the end of 2024, he felt a discomfort deriving from the use of the electronic cigarette. “Before going to the hospital, I continued to smoke. I started to toss and to have lung pain. I knew it was in the lung because I had pneumonia in 2019 and it was a specific pain. I started worrying,” he said.

In the hospital, the tests showed that he had a lung lump. “I tried to take everything well because I was with my parents and my girlfriend. But I was afraid to show what I was feeling,” he said.

With the diagnosis of cancer, the young woman had to undergo surgery to remove half of the lung. To the delight of Laura and her family, the procedure was successful and a tomography showed that it was no longer with the disease.

“As soon as I was discharged from the hospital, I decided to share some of what had happened to me on my personal Instagram and then on Tiktok, who has a greater scope,” he said. Even with complete removal of cancer, Laura has yet to undergo periodic medical tests for five years.

“I will be following a follow -Up with an oncologist. The exams have to see if cancer has the opportunity to return. I started posting [sobre o diagnóstico] To see if I could reach more people and notify excessive consumption of electronic cigarettes and tobacco, “he said.
