One of the main things you need to do with silver accessories is to prevent them from coming into contact with sea or pool water, or with an excessive amount of sweat. This is because contact with these substances causes silver to oxidize more easily.

“It is recommended that you remove the pieces before entering the sea or the pool and clean them with running water if you sweated a lot the day you put them on,” says Giselle. Leaving accessories aside during training is also good advice in this regard, according to the expert.

Other important precautions for storing your silver items well are: wash them regularly with running water and neutral soap and always remember not to apply perfumes or cosmetics after wearing the accessories.

Oh, it’s oxidized! And now?

Even with all the necessary care, it can happen that your silver accessory ends up oxidizing. But as for that, don’t worry! Also because there are ways to save your items and make them shine again.

To do this, it is enough to clean the accessory with one of the techniques suitable for silver objects. And preferably, do it as soon as the object starts to darken.

“There are two very practical methods for cleaning oxidized silver pieces,” says Giselle. According to her, one of these methods is use a specific product for this task, the silver cleaner. Just moisten a cloth with this product and use it to clean your silver accessory.

The other good technique for doing this cleaning is to use the flannels or so-called “magic” cloths, which are also suitable for this. According to Giselle, it is enough to clean the silver with them, without other products, until they regain luster.
