Felipe Stracci and Luciana Pitombo, of Plantar Ideias, evaluate how the pieces in the outdoor spaces create points of coexistence and comfort in collective spaces

Often, due to progressively accelerated and busy routines, we spend a lot of time away from home, especially in big cities. With the advance of urbanization, Brazil is moving so that more and more people fit into this reality and experience the city as an extension of their home. According to a survey by MapBiomas, conducted through the analysis and acquisition of images between 1985 and 2020, urban sprawl in the country grew by about 1.97% per year, outpacing population growth and expanding irregularly, with essential needs for individuals.
Among the many measures that can be taken to make citizens feel better when traveling around the city, architecture and urban planning for some time it has been developing and studying street furniture and its participation in urban infrastructures.
But what exactly are street furniture?
The term is quite complete and mainly refers to the furniture and elements that are part of the city, being linked to the functioning of the municipality and its relationship with people. It is important to emphasize that this furniture is at the service of the population and makes everyday life more practical and safe.

In addition, a dog track is in the pipeline, as well as other facilities within the park.

A sustainable future
One of the recurring concerns of professionals in the field of architecture and urban planning is the development of more sustainable and environmentally friendly cities, reducing waste and increasingly integrating individuals and nature. In this context, landscape and street furniture constitute an essential combination for thinking about proposals and providing solutions to the public.

One of Plantar Ideias’ current projects is the relaunch of the Dois Irmãos Park, in Pernambuco, where new experiences will be made available to the public, transforming the installation into a Biopark: a meeting place, integration, respect for nature, scientific research and contemplation. The project includes numerous furnishing elements for the well-being of visitors, such as stylized and comfortable bridges and benches.

New ideas and projections for the future of cities not only include the well-being of people, but also prioritize nature, preventing deforestation and the destruction of ecosystems. In this way, architecture and urban planning focus on landscape and sustainability to create environments that reinforce the role of nature and its importance.
