The increase in positive diagnoses and community members with flu-like symptoms weighed in on the decision; Unicamp has also resumed compulsory protection
THE University of São Paulo (USP) decided this Friday, the 11th, that the wearing of protective masks will once again be mandatory within the establishment. The provision will come into force from next Wednesday, 16. In outdoor environments, the accessory continues to be recommended only in crowded situations.
The decision was made by the Dean’s Health Advisory Committee due to the increase in the number of people with flu symptoms and positive diagnoses for COVID-19 among the university community in recent weeks. In the first ten days of November, 255 cases of coronavirus were recorded, against 98 in the entire last month.
The top is not isolated. As shown the Stage🇧🇷 the number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus in intensive care units (ICU) in Greater São Paulo has grown by 65.1% in the last two weeks, according to data from the Department of Health of the State of São Paulo. On October 25, there were 215 people in this condition. On Tuesday, the 8th, the number rose to 335.
USP said the decision to re-require the use of masks indoors includes classrooms, auditoriums, museums, laboratories, libraries, public service locations and government departments. The complete calendar of vaccinations against covid-19 remains mandatory for teachers, administrative technical staff and students.
According to the statement, “it is recommended not to organize festive events, gatherings, coffee breaks or any other similar event that encourages participants to remove the mask for food intake and, consequently, increases the possibility of virus transmission.”
The document with the updated health guidelines was signed by the dean of the USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, and by the vice-rector of the institute, Maria Arminda do Nascimento Arruda. “We remind you that the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic is quite dynamic. We will therefore update the guidelines for the USP community whenever necessary”, reads the document.
This Friday, the Campinas State University (Unicamp) has once again mandated the use of protective masks against covid-19 indoors, including classrooms🇧🇷 The decision, taken in a meeting of the scientific committee for the containment of the coronavirus, on the night of Thursday 10, took into account the new epidemiological scenario, with an increase in people with respiratory symptoms and positive cases identified at the University of the last two weeks.
