The City Hall of São Paulo has informed that the registrations for the so-called “xepa vaccine” are against it COVID-19 for children from 6 months to 2 years. This strategy, already adopted for other ages throughout the immunization campaign, consists in setting up a waiting list in case there are residual doses in the vials. If there is a need, interested parties are contacted quickly.
The vaccination of children in this age group will officially begin in São Paulo on Thursday 17 and, initially, will give priority to children with comorbidities – immunosuppressed and permanently disabled – or indigenous. The city of São Paulo received 34,840 doses of the pediatric vaccine for that first moment.
The Town Hall has reinforced that groups from 6 months up to 2 years and 11 months will receive the so-called Pfizer Baby (wine-colored lid), which is the only vaccine currently authorized by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) for this age group.
The distribution to all basic health units (UBS) of the municipal network will take place next Wednesday, 16, and will allow this public to start vaccinating the next day. The vaccination program will be in three doses. The second dose should be given four weeks after the first dose. The third can be applied eight weeks after the second dose.
Those responsible for the children must present, in this first phase of the vaccination, proof of the risk condition. That is, prescriptions, reports or other documents certifying comorbidities or other foreseen conditions. These documents must contain, in addition to the child’s identification, the doctor’s stamp with CRM, and be valid within two years of issue.
How to enroll children in the ‘xepa vaccine’
Overall, the municipality of São Paulo currently has 367,439 children aged between 6 months and 2 years, according to data from the State System of Data Analysis Foundation (Seade). The number is much higher than the amount of doses available for application in the city of São Paulo, meaning that a significant portion is not covered by the campaign at this time.
In this context, the town hall informed that, if there are vaccine doses remaining towards the end of each daily activity in the units, the other children in this age group can take the immuniser. For this, the condition is that they reside in the region where the primary health unit is located (proof of address must be presented for prior registration).
The town hall has informed that registration for the remaining doses can be done from next Wednesday, the day before the start of immunization of children aged 6 months to 2 years.
