Breaded prawns with sweet and sour sauce

Ingredients:

  • 20 medium prawns, peeled and decapitated, leaving the tail
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (for cooking)
  • 1 cup wheat flour (tea)
  • 1 cup of water (tea)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
  • Fry oil

Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 2 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon(s) of tomato paste
  • 1 and 1/2 cups (tea) water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (shoyu)
  • 3 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch

Method of preparation:

  1. Put the prawns and baking soda in a bowl, mix well and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. For the sauce, put the oil, ketchup, tomato puree in a pan and mix well.
  3. Add 1 cup (tea) water, soy sauce, vinegar, salt and sugar and mix well.
  4. Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining water, add it to the sauce in the pan, cook until it thickens and remove from the heat.
  5. Put the flour and water in a bowl and mix well until you get a smooth dough.
  6. Add the salt and yeast, mixing well.
  7. Heat the oil well in a deep frying pan, dip the prawns in the batter and fry them in the hot oil until golden brown.
  8. Remove from heat and leave to drain on absorbent paper.
  9. Serve with the hot sauce.
