As scheduled in the inauguration ceremony, President-elect and graduate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated, this Sunday afternoon, the 1st, in a parade in an open car along the Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasilia, aboard the roll- government royce. Lula wore a blue tie; the vice president, Geraldo Alckmin, wore the red patch.

The first lady, Rosangela Silva ‘Janja’, wore a beige look signed by the designer Helô Rocha, the same one who made her wedding dress, and created in collaboration with embroiderers from Timbaúba, Pernambuco, Lula’s home state. Lu Alckmin, wife of the vice president, opted for a white look.

A few minutes before the start of the procession, there were still doubts about the PT’s participation in the parade. He chose to follow tradition. Also in the vehicle were the First Lady, the Vice President and his wife.

Safety is a major theme at Lula’s inauguration events this Sunday. A 31-year-old man was arrested by the Federal District Military Police when he attempted to enter the dedication ceremony with a knife and fireworks.
