The nutritionist clarifies what are the effects of drinking on the body of those who practice exercises
It doesn’t matter which modality, i.e. food cure, is needed for that safe exercise. At the same time, there are many types, even more so for those who dedicate themselves to the perfect “shape”. In this sense, is it worth swapping water for coconut water during your workout?

“I make it clear that nothing replaces the consumption of water. Water is our main source of hydration, which the body needs. Consuming coconut water is also interesting because it contains more minerals and potassium,” said the Professor of Nutrition at CEUB (University Center of Brasilia) Paloma Popov in an exclusive interview for Sport Life.
When asked about the consequences for those who promote this substitution, Paloma was frank in saying that exaggeration causes serious damage to health. Be on the lookout for those who can’t see themselves without coconut water in both sports and routine.
“An exacerbated and continuous consumption can bring some damage. It overloads the renal system. Those who are predisposed to renal failure or those who have kidney stones and hypertension are people who should avoid excessive consumption of coconut water. Why then yes, these mineral salts it can be in excess,” adds Popov.
Warnings, benefits and high acceptance
Another recommendation that appears in many articles is the coconut water model. Don’t fall into the saying that “everything is the same and only the brand changes”. Each company offers the market types with different levels of sodium, sugars and it is worth remembering that there is a difference in the moment of production, time to detect whether it is healthy or not.
Don’t think that coconut water is the villain of the diet! Driving is only so that no one extrapolates. Considering that this drink prevents cramps, helps fluid and electrolyte replacement after a period of exercise, improves hangovers, it is considered a natural isotonic drink and has a low calorie content.
national preference
Coconut water has already fallen in love with the Brazilian population. Kantar released a study on February 19, 2020 in which between November 2018 and November 2019 the drink achieved more than 2.5 penetration points in the domestic market. This result shows that more than 1.5 million households have purchased coconut water.
Who is she?
In addition to teaching at CEUB, Paloma Popov holds a degree in nutrition and biology from UCB (Catholic University of Brasilia). She is also a master in human nutrition from Unb (University of Brasilia).
