Photographer Marina Vernikou clarified in a social media post that a lagocephalus fish shown in her recent video was found dead in open waters. Vernikou issued the statement to provide context to online followers after her initial footage sparked widespread discussion across social media.
She explained that the fish was not located on a beach or near an island, but was found dead in the open sea after a fisherman threw it out. Vernikou said she made the clarification so that fear would not be created unnecessarily.
Safety advice for swimmers
In her original post, Vernikou had already sought to reassure viewers that there was no reason to be afraid or avoid the sea. She advised that anyone who sees a lagocephalus should not touch it with bare hands, disturb it, or eat it. She added that people should observe the fish from a distance and continue swimming normally.
