Tribute to an explosive screen presence
In a message accompanying the images, Finos Film wrote that Martha represented effortless radiance, a captivating gaze, breezy movement, bold humour, femininity with swagger, and a presence that still fills the screen no matter how many years pass.
The studio added that Karagianni was born on this day, remarking that the published photographs showed only a few of the many versions of Martha that audiences came to love.
Final wishes and resting place
Karagianni died at her home on 18 September 2022 at the age of 82.
Following her personal wishes, her body was cremated and her ashes were scattered across the waters of the Saronic Gulf.
Tributes across Greek cultural media have frequently described her as a beloved diva of Greek cinema whose personal life was marked by great romances as well as private tragedy.
Golden age of Greek cinema
Karagianni rose to national prominence during the mid twentieth century as one of the defining stars of the golden age of Greek commercial cinema.
Much of her enduring popularity was built in partnership with Finos Film, the historic production company founded by Philopimin Finos that produced many of the country's most successful comedies and musicals.
She became particularly famous for her dynamic dance numbers and comedic timing, often portraying spirited, modern women in blockbuster musical productions directed by Giannis Dalianidis.
Colleagues have long spoken warmly of her character off the set, with fellow actress Eleni Anousaki remembering her as a rare individual who was never hesitant to express affection and support for those around her.
