Marvel fans declared a boycott of the Russian family film The Last Knight. Kolobok ahead of its premiere, according to metrics from Kinopoisk and Telegram channel posts.
The social media scandal began following reports that movie theaters were asked to delay the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to support the Russian project.
In response, the Russian-language comic book fan community drove the Kinopoisk rating for Kolobok down to a record low of 1.1 out of 10 points. Kinopoisk subsequently disabled user ratings and comments for the film, stating that all metrics will return after its official premiere scheduled for August 6.
Empty theater halls
Superhero movie fans shared screenshots online showing that halls remained 90 percent or more empty for several Kolobok screenings at a Moscow cinema. Fans cited the images to demonstrate the effectiveness of their boycott actions.
Actor Garik Kharlamov, who plays one of the main roles in Kolobok, previously attended a closed premiere of the movie.
