Greek concert promoter Live2 Entertainment has confirmed the definitive cancellation of the "33 Years" concert that had been scheduled for September 20 at Technopolis in Athens to mark singer Giorgos Mazonakis's 33-year career.
The company said the show will not be turned into a tribute concert in Mazonakis's memory, at least not at this stage. It said any such tribute would need the proper time and preparation to give his artistic career and contribution the respect they deserve.
Company statement on the cancellation
In its official announcement, Live2 Entertainment said it was cancelling the "33 Years" concert with deep sadness and respect for Mazonakis's memory. The company said his tragic and unexpected death made it impossible, at this point, to turn the concert directly into a tribute to his memory and artistic journey.
It added that a tribute to an artist with Mazonakis's career and contribution should be carried out with the time, care and respect his memory and work deserve, rather than under the weight and immediacy of his sudden loss. The company closed its statement by offering condolences to his family and loved ones, and bidding him farewell.
Ticket refunds
Live2 Entertainment said the price of tickets already purchased will be refunded automatically through ticketing platform More. Refunds will be issued using the same payment method used at purchase, and ticket holders do not need to take any action.
Who is Giorgos Mazonakis
Mazonakis was a well-known Greek singer with a career spanning 33 years, and the cancelled concert had been planned to celebrate that anniversary. Technopolis, the venue where the show was due to take place, is a cultural centre in the Gazi district of Athens, built on the site of a former 19th-century gasworks and now used as a concert and events venue.
Live2 Entertainment did not give a date for when, or whether, a tribute concert might be organised in the future.
