Elena Kremlidou reveals suicide thoughts over revenge porn

Elena Kremlidou reveals suicide thoughts over revenge porn

Elena Kremlidou has revealed that she received threats and contemplated suicide after private intimate material was leaked online without her consent.

The Greek media personality and former Survivor contestant spoke about the ordeal during an interview on the television programme Koinonia Ano-Kato on Friday, November 6.

Kremlidou explained that the personal material was created when she was 16 years old, but it only surfaced publicly once she had achieved broader recognition at the age of 22.

Kremlidou gained national recognition following her appearance as a contestant on the Greek edition of the reality survival show Survivor, later building a career as an influencer and media personality.

Threats and mental health impact

Speaking during the broadcast, Kremlidou detailed the severe emotional distress that followed the leak, disclosing that she received threats and reached a point where she wanted to end her life. She stated that she had spoken about the traumatic experience multiple times, noting how exceptionally difficult the situation became when the material began circulating online.

Kremlidou stressed that women face disproportionate vulnerability in such situations, explaining that the violation creates an enduring insecurity about simply existing in public life. She observed that the feeling of exposure can be so pervasive that a woman feels exposed even when fully clothed.

She also addressed public perceptions around non-consensual imagery, criticising past attitudes that questioned why a victim shared photos in the first place. She argued that public debate must question why individuals record or distribute explicit material without the knowledge and consent of the other person.

Deepfake technology and altered media

Kremlidou noted that the violation extended beyond the original leak, as publicly available images from her own accounts were taken and manipulated without her consent. She explained that third parties used standard photographs she had shared online to generate pornographic material, which was subsequently posted to adult websites.

She warned that advancements in digital manipulation now make it possible for perpetrators to create fabricated footage using only a person face. According to Kremlidou, tools can take an ordinary photo, remove clothing, and generate entirely false videos, requiring nothing more than a person facial likeness to produce explicit material.

Legal action and pursuit of perpetrators

Kremlidou confirmed that legal action has been initiated against those responsible for creating and distributing the material, confirming that a formal lawsuit has been submitted and the case will proceed through the justice system.

The television appearance follows previous public statements by Kremlidou on the long-term consequences of revenge porn, where she described the psychological fallout as a lasting trauma and called for an end to victim blaming.
