“PS I Love You” is one of the most tender romantic stories and one of the movies that help to deal with the grief when a couple dies. However, on the real-life shoot, tragedy struck.
Whether it’s an action-packed movie or a romantic movie, accidents can happen on set, as happened to Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank in the 2007 film.

‘PS I Love You’: Gerard Butler nursed Hilary Swank on set
In the 2007 drama romance, Holly (Hilary Swank) falls in love with Jerry Kennedy (Gerard Butler), who dies prematurely, although she leaves him letters on his birthday instructing him to enjoy life.
In the first scenes of the film, Holly and Jerry’s relationship is shown to make the audience understand the great affection and love that the couple had.
It was in one of these scenes, where the pair are together, that Gerard Butler hurt his co-star Hilary Swank. The actor recounted on “The Drew Barrymore Show” on January 24, 2023 what the experience was like.
Speaking about fun facts or behind-the-scenes stories from his movies, Butler revealed that he “almost killed” Swank in “PS I Love You” when he was filming the bedroom scene where he dances in his underwear and suspenders.
The scene is a comedic moment in the film, as Jerry wants to do a sexy dance for Holly, but one of his suspenders comes undone and hits him square in the face. Only when recording things didn’t go as expected.
The actor, now 53, who also remembers leading the cast of “300,” said the injury was so severe that Hilary Swank had to be taken to the hospital while he was left alone on the set to cry about what happened.
Luckily, Swank’s injury didn’t get worse and he made a full recovery to finish shooting the movie, plus he didn’t resent or blame Butler for what happened.
