The fifth and final season of Balthazar, broadcast every Thursday on TF1, will end in a week with the final episode of the apotheosis, not to be missed, which leaves many shocking moments for fans of the detective series led by Tomer Sisley.
If this final episode of Balthazar – which almost went without the series star for a while – offers a real conclusion to Raphael and Camille (Constance Labe) and sees Alexander return as the hero’s evil brother for the last time, Helen Bach won’t be there.
After leaving at the end of the third season in 2020, Ellen de Fugerol did not take on the role of a police officer in this final round. And he didn’t even contact the production for a possible return, as he recently told us in an interview.
“I wasn’t offered at all. I think it would be weird to come back after two years.”– the actress who will soon play Natacha Lindinger in the title role of the series Sam told our microphone. “There was no question even if I would keep in touch with the production, with whom I continue to collaborate on other projects, such as a TV movie. Christmas… and more if you want. I don’t think there was a reason for my character to come back. The show went on, they did two seasons without me.”.
A closed-minded feeling shared by Clotilde Jamini, creator, producer and collection director of Balthazar. Even if she admits that the idea of bringing back the character of Ellen Bach, who had gone to live in Polynesia with her children, still sneaked into the minds of the screenwriters.
“Ellen is part of Balthazar’s past”
“To be honest, it was probably mentioned at some point, but the debate was quickly shut down”– says Clotilda Jamin. “The idea was to actually offer the characters a future, not necessarily a past. And for us, Helen is a part of Balthazar’s past. And her return would draw Balthazar’s character into a past that was no longer there. It made sense that he was much less advanced than himself.”.
“We know how much the public loves Elena. And how much we love her. Bringing her back would cause chaos in a new situation that’s working. Maybe we would have done it if we’d had an extra season. But as it stands, for this final season, we don’t think it made sense.” .”.
The idea, with a fifth batch of episodes that will conclude the adventure that began in 2018, was more of a glimpse into the future of the hero played by Tomer Sisley. A future that, according to Clotilda Gemini, passes through the three female characters of the series.
“Nowadays there are three characters who embody Balthazar’s future. It is obviously Camille, his lifelong friend, who prevents him from believing in himself.”The creator of the series explains.
“There is Olivia Vesinetti (Caterina Murino) Also, who is the only woman who never needed Balthazar for us. And that’s why she might be happy with him. Balthazar is quite self-centered, very childish and at the same time extremely brilliant. And Olivia, if she chooses Balthazar, that’s only positive. We liked it as an idea. She is a successful woman in every way. If they get together, it will be a very mature relationship.”.
As for the last character that represents Raphael Balthazar’s future and all the possibilities, it is clearly Alice, his daughter, who was brought to the world by Maya in prison. “The last person is little Alice. Her baby. This is also Balthazar’s future.”.
A future that will obviously be at the heart of the series finale, which airs on Thursday 23 February at 9.10pm on TF1.
