The tape, which we will know under the title: ‘The Return’, will be based on Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’.
Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes will reunite in this film, 25 years after ‘The English Patient’. The film, based on Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, you will see the two interpreters in the main roles of the story. The classic film duo, who had also reunited in the past for the film ‘Wuthering Heights’, once again confronts a period story.
‘The return‘, title with which we will know the project, will be directed by Umberto Pasolini and will have a script by Edward Bond, John College and Pasolini himself. In addition to the two main performers, we will be able to enjoy the participation of Charlie Plummer, in the main cast.
Its shooting, which is scheduled to start this spring, will be located mainly in the Greek regions of Corfu and the Peloponnese peninsula, and in Italy. Its theatrical release will take place throughout 2024.
The official synopsis for the film, (for those unfamiliar with the classic Greek tale) shares the following: “After 20 years of absence, Odysseus (Fiennes) appears on the shores of Ithaca emaciated and unrecognizable. The king has finally returned home, but much has changed in his kingdom since he left to fight in the Trojan War. Shis beloved wife Penelope (Binoche) is now a prisoner in her own home, hounded by her many ambitious suitors into choosing a new husband, a new king.“
“His son Telemachus (Plummer), who grew up fatherless, faces death at the hands of the suitors, who see him as an obstacle in his relentless pursuit of Penelope and the kingdom. Odysseus has changed too. Scarred by his experience in war, he is no longer the mighty warrior his people remember. But he is forced to face his past in order to rediscover the strength to save his family and win back the love he has lost..”
‘El Regreso’ is a co-production between Italy and Greece and will be backed by the executive production of Bleecker Street.
Juliette Binoche has been one of the stars of the last 2023 Goya Awards Gala. The actress attended the Spanish film festival and collected his 2023 Goya International Award. Master of her trade, we are sure that her portrait of Penelope will be one to remember. At least almost as much as her previous adventure with Fiennes, which managed to rank as one of the best love movies ever and won her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Will ‘The Return’ achieve the same feat? We just have to wait.
