Coach Odair Hellmann already has some embezzlement for Santos’ upcoming matches. Midfielder Sandry, who was hit by an elbow during the win against Portuguesa, suffered a fracture on Sunday and will need surgery on Monday.
At the Estádio da Vila Belmiro, for the Campeonato Paulista, Sandry was hit in the first half by Marzagão, who ended up being sent off. The replaced midfielder suffered a deep cut and was initially treated by Santos’ medical department in the dressing room.
Taken to Albert Einstein Hospital during the match against Portuguesa, Sandry underwent tests which revealed a broken nose and jaw. Accompanied by the Santos medical team, the midfielder will undergo surgery this Monday.
“Santos FC wishes Menino da Vila a speedy recovery,” the club posted on its Twitter account. With 13 points, one less than Botafogo-SP and Red Bull Bragantino, the alvinegro team occupies third place in Group A and returns to the field to face Corinthians on Sunday at 4pm (Brasilia time), in Vila Belmiro.
