The President of the United States, Joe Biden, arrived this Monday (20) in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion on February 24.
A visit to Poland, a country bordering Ukraine, was scheduled for this Monday, but the stop in Kiev had not been confirmed by the White House.
The American president was received by his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and both paraded through the streets of the capital, despite the air raid alert throughout the country.
“A year later, Kiev and Ukraine are standing. Democracy is resisting,” said Biden, who also announced another $500 million in aid to the European country, including military equipment.
Zelensky, for his part, said the meeting served to discuss the US supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine.
