Is “mom” male? Meet the actor who played the ghost in the horror film

Before Guillermo del Toro stood out for his version of “Pinocchio” (which was supposed to have a “darker” beginning but was cut), the Mexican was the producer of the movie “Mama”.

It is a horror film directed by Andy Muschietti, which follows the story of Victoria and Lily, a pair of orphans who survive five years alone in the forest thanks to a supernatural entity.

Mom is the monster responsible for putting the girls in and scaring them even after their uncle saves them. It is the spirit of a woman, who protects them as a result of the fateful events she went through in life.

Despite the fact that it could be considered one of the horror movie monsters that traumatized our childhood, you might not have guessed that it was played by a talented Spanish actor.

This is Javier Botet, the actor who played the mom

More and more Spanish actors are taking over Hollywood and Javier Botet is one of them. The first famous production she participated in was ‘Rec’, a 2007 film in which she played Niña Madeiros, patient zero of the demonic virus from the horror franchise.

Later, he had roles in other films, shorts and programs, until in 2013 he had the opportunity to give life to Mama. This is the antagonist of the 2013 film starring Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

After working on “Mama”, Javier Botet participated in other famous productions, such as “The Conjuring 2”, “Polaroid”, “It”, “Slender Man” or “It: Chapter II”. It is worth clarifying that in most of them he also played scary characters.
