As Season 3 of White Lotus approaches and looks set to head straight to Asia, we’re learning Deadline That the second season could have had a completely different mood.
Indeed, David Bernard, executive producer of the HBO series and currently in the Berlinale series market in Germany, has lifted the curtain behind the scenes of pre-production on Season 2, which won a Golden Globe for the excellent Jennifer Coolidge.
In an interview with Deadline, he revealed that Dahmer star Evan Peters was originally slated to play the role of Ethan, which eventually went to Will Sharp. In the second season, Ethan Spiller is a hard worker who vacations with his wife Harper (Aubrey Plaza), his former college friend Cameron (Theo James) and his wife Daphne (Megan Fahey) in Sicily. Not a very peaceful holiday…
“This role is the last one we distributed during the season. It was originally supposed to be Evan Peters, but for whatever reason – time and time again – it didn’t work out.– says Bernard.We were really trying to figure out how to cast the role so it didn’t look like a familiar actor.“, he specifies.
“We were in Rome auditioning Italian actors, and I was Googling at 4am and came across Will Sharpe in Giri/Haji, which is a brilliant series in the UK. I had never seen him before and he was just incredibly talented. I looked at what else he did and realized that he was some kind of chameleon.“
Evan Peters’ presence could bring a whole different energy to this season. Had he landed the role, filming would have taken place just months after stepping into Dahmer’s shoes. We then imagine Ethan’s character to be a bit more strained… but that doesn’t detract from Will Sharp’s performance, perfect from start to finish!
