The fifth phase of the MCU began this 2023 with the appearance of the villain Kang (Jonathan Majors) in “Ant-Man 3”, but in the film’s post-credit scenes the real threat to the future of the universe is seen.
As the title of the next Avengers movie (‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’) says, Kang will be the big villain of the Multiverse Saga and his presence can already be seen in the MCU.
The new film not only shows the origin of Kang the Conqueror and his fight against Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), but as the credits roll, new variants of the villain appear that will be key to the future.
- Paul Rudd also plays the movie ‘No Idea’, which is available on ViX+, ViX’s premium streaming service.
‘Ant-Man 3’: All Kang Variations Explained
In the “Loki” series, Jonathan Majors was already introduced as a character called He Who Remains (He Who Remains), who was responsible for maintaining a single timeline and preventing the crossing of universes.
Before his death, the character warned that breaking the Sacred Time Line would cause countless variations of him to start a new multi-faceted war.
His warning came true with the appearance of Kang the Conqueror in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” as this variant also warns that there is a Kang team that will destroy time.
Kang was exiled to the Quantum Realm to wipe out entire universes, but with his death at the end of ‘Ant-Man 3’ the Kang Council realizes that the Avengers are putting the multiverse at risk.
In the post-credits scene you can clearly see three variants of Kang that appear to be leading the others, they are Rama-Tut, Immortus and Scarlet Centurion. Then an entire coliseum full of Kang variants appears.
Immortus is the most powerful version of Kang, always being the last of all his variants to survive to the end of time and on several occasions calling himself the real Kang.
Rama-Tut is a variant of Kang who traveled to ancient Egypt and with his knowledge and technology became a pharaoh for the people. Until the Fantastic Four stopped him.
In the comics, the Scarlet Centurion is the same variant of Rama-Tut, since when defeated he travels to the present and adopts a new villain personality based on Doctor Doom.
Although the version of Scarlet Centurion seen in ‘Ant-Man 3’ appears to be completely different, having much more advanced technology and a design away from the comics.
The importance of these three variants is demonstrated by the fact that they could serve to introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU and, in the case of Immortus, be the big bad guy to beat like Thanos was.
Another variation appears in the final scene of “Ant-Man 3” after the concerts and involves Victor Timely, who appears to be a simple inventor in the year 1901, but is being watched by Loki and Mobius.
Victor Timely is a variant of Kang who traveled back in time and became a successful businessman and inventor thanks to his knowledge of the future, even creating the android that would become the first human torch.
The scene is still from Loki season 2, director Peyton Reed confirmed to IndieWire on February 24, and serves to introduce audiences to the next variant that will have a big impact on the Marvel universe.
Timely’s importance in the MCU lies in his history with the Fantastic Four and that this variant could end up being the same Kang that Scott fights in ‘Ant-Man 3’ or be the one who creates the Council of Kang.
