Fluminense won the Guanabara Cup title this Thursday. The tricolors beat Flamengo 2 to 1, in the second round, for the last round of the group stage of the Campeonato Carioca, in that of Maracanã.
The title was the first for coach Fernando Diniz at Fluminense. After the party with the players on the field, the commander praised the feat against an opponent with superior financial power.
“I’m very happy to be my first championship in this house. It’s not my first, I won minor titles that people overlook when it’s convenient. But for me there are much more important things in life that are the work of those who do justice , clarity… That titles are always the result of a job well done, of many hands,” said Diniz.
“Fluminense has a very large disproportion of receipts compared to our rival and other rivals, but with a lot of work we manage to make up for this disadvantage. We know that the season is only just beginning, the Carioca Championship has closed the first part and starts again with a very tough match probably on Sunday against Volta Redonda”, added the Fluminense coach.
Diniz spoke of the team’s change of attitude after the break, which ended with Flamengo leading after a great goal from Everton Cebolinha. Fluminense turned the game around with goals from Germán Cano and Gabriel Pirani.

“I think a little more was needed to have the face that the team has, the best Fluminense. To have a little more courage in playing, to have the pleasure of playing football and to take the risks we have to take. The team does not it was bad in the first half, but I felt that something more was needed and I made the changes,” he said.
Fluminense is still waiting for its opponent in the semifinal of the Carioca Championship, contrary to what Diniz declared in the press conference. The tricolors can face Volta Redonda or Vasco, who will play again against Bangú on Thursday.
