Directed by Duncan Jones, Warcraft takes us to the peaceful kingdom of Azeroth. The latter is on the brink of war, and its civilization must face a terrible race of invaders: orc warriors flee for another colonization of their dying world.
When the portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army is on the verge of destruction and the other is on the verge of extinction. From the opposite side, two heroes confront each other and decide the fate of their family, people and homeland.
A long project
It all started in May 2006 when Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures announced that the Warcraft movie would see the light of day. A few weeks later, rumors circulated that Steven Spielberg was directing.
But it was in 2009, during Blizzcon’s traditional annual meeting, that Blizzard Entertainment officially announced the launch of the film based on its cult license world. The studio was led by Sam Rhyme and Saving Private Ryan screenwriter Robert Rodat.
The film project remained on standby until 2012, when the filmmaker said he was no longer at the helm as he was forced to relinquish control in order to be able to film the fantastic world of Oz. Shortly after, Rodat Jerry came to leave the ship.
In fact, the two men spent several months working on a script that ultimately disliked Blizzard, a studio that wanted to take a completely different direction … In January 2013, The Hollywood Reporter renamed the director: Duncan Jones, author. Two excellent SF movies: Moon and Source Code.
