A crossover event
One case solved in two different eras in two series is impossible on paper. And yet, that’s the challenge set by the NCIS: Special Investigations and NCIS: Origins teams. Indeed, on November 11, CBS will air a crossover between the main series and its prequel, set in the 1990s and following young Gibbs (played by Austin Stockwell) as he begins his career as a special agent at the new Camp Pendleton office.
This special double episode will begin in NCIS: Origins, where Gibbs and his team investigate the death of a Navy officer in a small town. Then the case will be reopened on present day NCIS: Special Investigations. A first attempt that will pave the way for more connections between the two programs in the future.
Mark Harmon’s big comeback
The event is all the more significant as Mark Harmon will guest star on NCIS: Origins to reprise his role as Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, which he played for nineteen years on NCIS: Special Investigations. The actor left the series in 2021 during the 19th season. He did, however, star in the pilot of NCIS: Origins, a series he produces and voices.
Thus, Mark Harmon never fully said goodbye to the world that made him famous. But his return will be eagerly awaited by fans who were disappointed not to see him in NCIS: Special Investigations for the episode of David McCallum (Ducky Mallard) who died in 2023, nor in the 1,000th episode, which airs in April 2024.

Young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) “NCIS: Origins”
NCIS Showrunners and Executive Producers: NCIS Origins and Producers: David J. North and Gina Lucita Montreal welcome Harmon back, they said press release : “Four years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a lonely life. We know how much fans missed seeing Mark and wondered what Gibbs was up to today. On November 11, we’re excited to announce that Mark Harmon will reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in an episode of Origins. That Gibbs is no longer alone.”
As for the first, he speaks for himself “We’re very proud of the story work David and Gina did on Origins. They continue to push the boundaries and deepen the characters’ stories. They introduced an idea for Gibbs that I loved, and it was a good time to hear from him. I hope fans enjoy it.”
This is promising! In France, you’ll have to be patient because NCIS: Origins doesn’t have a broadcaster yet.
