Rita Repulsa wants to defeat the Power Rangers in a new Netflix special: this is what they look like

As one of the most anticipated streaming premieres of 2023 is “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” a Netflix special for the saga’s 30th anniversary that will bring together the original cast of the program.

For this Netflix special, the actors who started the franchise and return to their role are David Yost (Billy Cranston / Blue Ranger) and Walter Jones (Zack Taylor / Black Ranger).

Absent from the original cast are Thuy Trang as Trini Kwan, Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver (both actors deceased), Austin St. John as Jason and Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly (who turned down Netflix’s offer).

In this way, those who will complete the team of youngsters with attitude, powers and colorful costumes are Steve Cardenas (Rocky DeSantos, the second Red Ranger) and Catherine Sutherland (Kat Hillard, the second Pink Ranger).

Now the official trailer for ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always’ gives a glimpse of the plot that brings the heroes together and also reveals that they will face Rita Repulsa, their villain from the past.

“Power Rangers,” Rita Repulsa returns for Netflix special

The Power Rangers 30th Anniversary Reunion trailer shows that after years of plotting her revenge, Rita Repulsa reappears with a new robotic body and attacks the Rangers.

Obviously the fight takes them by surprise and Rita’s newfound power causes the Yellow Ranger to lose her life, so her daughter Min (Charlie Kers) takes up her mantle to avenge her death.

However, Rita’s plan doesn’t stop there, and in one scene Billy comments that the villain has opened a portal to travel through time, intending to wipe out the heroes before Zordon turns them into Power Rangers.

To stop her, Zordon and the Rangers’ robotic sidekick Alpha (Richard Horwitz) enlists the help of Aisha Campbell (Karan Ashley, the second Yellow Ranger) and Adam Park (Johnny Yong Boss), the second Black Ranger.

They, belonging to an organization with the initials ‘SPR’, are the ones who seem to be re-enlisting Rocky and Kat to form the team and stop the evil Rita’s plans.

It’s also impressive that in the early scenes of the trailer when Rita attacks them, it looks like the team is complete, so many theories have emerged as to who the Green Ranger will be if the original actor is already dead.

And all indications are that the Power Rangers tradition of not using the Megazord at the start of the match will continue, because in the trailer you can see a bit of the Zords and their full form when they come together.

The 30th anniversary special “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” premieres on Netflix on April 19, 2023.
