The post-apocalyptic drama series, created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, is apparently based on the 2013 video game developed by Naughty Dog. Set in the year 2023, twenty years after society has collapsed following a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection that turns its hosts into zombie-like creatures.
The Last of Us follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting Ellie (Bella Ramsay), a teenager with a secret, out of the United States. Survival is a daily concern that the former manages in its own way. But when his path crosses another, their journey will weigh on their humanity and their will to survive.
Many have called it the best video game adaptation ever made. As such, the show was widely acclaimed, especially for its acting and the quality of its script and production.
Its success led to impressive audience numbers: the second-best start for an HBO series since 2010, with the first six episodes averaging more than 30 million viewers in March. Therefore, it is not surprising that the series was renewed for a second season.
