The Miami finalist faces Rybakina this Saturday
Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova celebrated her place in the WTA 1000 final in Miami, USA, won this Friday after her straight-set triumph over Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
“I’m very happy for sure, I waited a long time to reach the final of the Miami Open and I finally made it. It was really tough so I’m very happy that I did it and I have the chance to play in the final. I know it was serving 40-15 to close the set. I only put in two good returns and she also missed a bit. So I kept the pace and was better on serve. It was fundamental, it was very difficult,” explained l ‘Czech expert.
The tennis player’s first final in a WTA 1000 dates back to 12 years ago: “Yes, it’s been a while. I’ve never been a constant player, I have to say. I’m more fluctuating, perhaps I have more experience with age. I’m really proud of myself with how I handled fights, especially when I was down. It really matters. As you all know, I love playing endgames.”
She compared the conditions in Miami to Indian Wells: “I was playing well in Indian Wells. Losing in the quarterfinals hurt, a difficult game against Maria. I have improved since I got here. I felt good on the court. It’s different , but the balls fly a lot here, the court is a bit faster. I think all conditions are more or less the same. My serve was very important to me throughout the tournament.”
The Czech commented on the permission of the Russians to play Wimbledon and wants them not to participate in the Olympics: “I am always against the war. I am more worried about the Ukrainian people and their players. I understand that Wimbledon went through difficult times last year without give points to the Belarusians and Russians who played. I think they shouldn’t be allowed to go to the Olympics either. I’m kind of on the side of the Ukrainians in this whole thing. I feel like the reason why the Olympics exist is because we don’t want any war in the world. So that’s my concern. I’m thankful Wimbledon didn’t allow them last year.”
