The young man who stabbed the Globo journalist is sentenced to 13 years in prison


Gabriel Luiz was hit by 10 stab wounds in April 2022, when he suffered an attempted robbery




One of the men involved in the attempted robbery of Gabriel Luiz, a Globo journalist, was sentenced to 13 years and 4 months’ imprisonment by the Second Criminal Court of Brasilia. José Felipe Leite Tunholi has to serve his sentence in a closed regimeaccording to the decision issued on Monday 3.

Gabriel Luiz was stabbed in April 2022, during a robbery in Brasilia, in front of the building where he lived. He was stabbed 10 times in the abdomen, leg, chest, neck and arm by Tunholi, 19 years old at the time, and a 17-year-old teenager.

A the two stole the journalist’s mobile phone and wallet and was arrested by the Civil Police of the Federal District one day after the incident. In the depositions, both confessed to the crime.

José Felipe Leite Tunholi, the adult, was taken to the 3rd police station. Also in 2022, he had his arrest in the act converted into a preventive measure for attempted robbery and corruption of a minor.

The other suspect, aged 17, was arrested and taken to the Children’s and Teenage Police Station, as he was a minor at the time. According to information from the Jornal Nacional, he is still complying with a socio-educational measure.
