Thus, the films adapted from the work of Alexandre Dumas are directed by François Civil (d’Artagnan), Vincent Cassel (Athos), Romain Duris (Aramis), Pio Marmai (Portos), Eva Green (Miled), Louis Garrel (Louis). XIII), Lina Khudri (Constance), Vicky Cripps (Queen Anne of Austria) or even Eric Ruff (Cardinal de Richelieu).

D’Artagnan takes us on a great swashbuckling adventure, from the Louvre to Buckingham Palace, from the slums of Paris to the siege of La Rochelle… In a kingdom divided by religious wars and threatened by an English invasion, a handful of men and women will cross swords and link their fate with France.

This first opus centers on d’Artagnan and the young Gascon’s encounter with the famous Three Musketeers: Athos, Porto and Aramis.

for that Francois CivilThe complementarity of The Musketeers derives from the fact that they are the product of the same author and that Alexandre Dumas raised each of them from him. “Dumas put a little bit of himself into all his characters. In the bon vivant side of Porthos, as in the seduction of D’Artagnan or Aramis..”

Here are the cast of this feature film in and out of costume.

Francois Civil is d’Artagnan

In this updated adaptation, Francois CivilAlready seen in Five, Le Chant du Loup or even Bac Nord, gives its characteristics to Gascon.

The 33-year-old actor says about his character:D’Artagnan is distinguished primarily by his youth. He is a young Gascon from a noble family, but penniless. His name and temperament are his only assets.

I find this character wonderful in his loyalty, honesty, cockiness, humility, passion and naivety. Everything is new for him. Paris, the body of the musketeers he fantasized about so much, the sudden love he finds himself in, the secrets and mechanisms of power… he is the hero of an initiatory tale of rare intensity*.

The most famous musketeer has been played on the screen more than thirty times, especially by Gabriel Byrne (The Man in the Iron Mask), Vincent Elbaz (D’Artagnan and the 3 Musketeers), Michael York (The Three Musketeers (1973) and its sequels), Logan Lerman (Paul U.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers) and Florent Pagni in Jose Dayan’s TV movie Milady.

Vincent Cassel is Athoni

Vincent Cassel It attributes its properties to Athos, the oldest and above all the most mysterious of the four musketeers. This is how the French actor describes his character “A suffering man carrying the weight of the past on his shoulders, consumed by regret, shame and guilt; It is a vector of many emotions..*”

The Musketeer has already been played by Leon Barry in 1921, Olivier Reid in the 1973 adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ novel, Kiefer Sutherland in Stephen Herek’s film, John Malkovich The Man in the Iron Mask Or in Guillaume Depardieu Milady in 2004.

Romain Duris is Aramis

After playing Gustave Eiffel Martin Bourboulon, Romain Duris Slips into Aramis’ suit. In the novels, the Chevalier d’Herblay is described as an intriguing person, whether in love stories or politics. The latter does not hesitate to kill opponents.

He has already been played on screen by Richard Chamberlain in 1973’s The Three Musketeers and its sequels, Sami Fray d’Artagnan’s Daughter, Jeremy Irons in The Iron Mask or Luke Evans in Paul W.S. In Anderson’s version.

Pio Marmai is Porthos

After playing a convict in the comedy En liberté!, a superhero in How I Became a Superhero and a journalist investigating a state scandal, Pio Marmai Slips into the skin of Porthos, the greediest of Musketeers.

For Pio Marmai, Porthos is “Holy and severe Epicurus. He has an insatiable appetite, without which he will not be forced to abandon his comrades. It has a real “corporate” side! He is at the service of others.*”

The character inspired by Mr. Bear’s Isaac de Port has already been played on screen by Charles Martinelli in The Three Musketeers (1921), Gerard Depardieu in the film. The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) or John Rhys-Davies in Musketeer Woman (2004).

Eva Green is Milady

Who is better?Eva Green Could she play the venomous Milady de Winter? If the latter is seen as evil and ready to do anything to achieve his goals, the second opus, focused on his character, will allow you to understand why he became so in the opinion of the actor.

Eva Green explains: “In the second part, we will find out why she became this unscrupulous woman, we will discover her Achilles’ heel and therefore a new Mileda, which I consider more human.

It is this inner journey that we look at in this adaptation. Milady is also a warrior. He is manly and bears arms with men. She is a modern, free, independent heroine who takes her destiny into her own hands. I like his fringe side and the way he makes fun of social conventions.”

If the interpreter of Vesper Linde in Casino Royale admires the work of Lana Turner in the adaptation of George Sidney’s The Three Musketeers (1948), other actors have also contributed their qualities to the character: Milene Demonjot in Bernard Border’s The Three Musketeers. 1961), Faye Dunaway 1973 The Three Musketeers and its sequels and its sequel We Called Her Milady Emmanuelle Beart D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers And Milla Jovovich in an action movie Paul WS Anderson.

Lina Khudri is Constance Bonacieux

Lina Khudri attributes his qualities to Constance Bonacier, confidante of Queen Anne of Austria (played by Vicky Cripps in this diptych). D’Artagnan quickly falls under her spell and will do anything to protect her.

The actor, who has already appeared in Papicha, Hors Normes and The French Dispatch, explains: “I like that she is not subservient and reduced to her work. She is part of the story, she has courage and a very independent spirit. Constance strives only for justice, precision… and love..”

Brave and bold, this character already had the qualities of Peret Pradier in The Three Musketeers in 1961, Julie Delph’s The Three Musketeers. Steven Hereck Or even Mena Suvari in Peter Hyams’ D’Artagnan.

Eric Ruff is Richelieu’s Cardinal

General administrator of the Comédie Française, theater and film actor Eric Ruff Cardinal de Richelieu explains. The French ecclesiastic and statesman, Cardinal-Duke, really existed. He was the chief minister of King Louis XIII.

in his novelAlexandre DumasHe is one of the main antagonists along with Milady. Eric Ruff says about the character: “Richelieu is best known as the Red Enchantress, whose weapons are intelligence, duplicity, criticism, synthesis, deception rather than physical force, and the ability to impress other than his words.”*”

Cardinal de Richelieu was already portrayed by Vincent Price in the adaptation George Sidneycheck carry in D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers Pierre Acnine, Jacques Perrin in the TV movie Richelieu, Purple and Blood, and Christoph Waltz in Paul W.S. In Anderson’s version.

Louis Garrel is Louis XIII

In The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan, Louis Garrel Represents the fair and good king of France. To prepare for the role, the actor and the director did a lot of research. He especially read the biography written by Jean-Christian Pettifils.

He specifies: “He’s very sympathetic to the character and rises up against Alexandre Dumas, against the king’s supposedly docile character, and under the influence of Richelieu. I found this work fascinating. I took various elements from it that helped me develop the character.”

He adds: “I still believe that Louis XIII is in the middle: at the same time, this position of the king fell, and he wanted it. He is both legitimate, because of royal blood, and illegitimate, because his mother wanted to see a brother in his place.

As a viewer, I always tend to think that a character who has power and seems to enjoy it rings a bit of a bell. I prefer to play Louis XIII with a little lag, as if he had some instability of character and could make impulsive decisions..”

Vicky Cripps is Queen Anne of Austria

Luxembourgish actress Vicky CrippsAlready seen in Millénium: What does not kill me by Fede Alvarez, more than ever Emily Atef and Corsage Marie Kreutzer, in which she played the Empress Sissi of Austria, here she plays Queen Anne of Austria.

It is to save her dignity and crown that Constance and the musketeers go to fight Milad and Cardinal de Richelieu. In the middle of a love triangle between King Louis XIII and the Duke of Buckingham (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd), the character takes center stage in the film. Martin Bourboulon.

Vicky Cripps says:I thought of Anne of Austria as a modern woman who believes that it is possible to love several people at the same time. She loves her husband, but also the Duke of Buckingham, and can observe from afar what is happening around her.

I found this bias all the more interesting because Martin Bourboulon wanted this film to be aimed at people today, not a simple reconstruction of the past..”

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd is the Duke of Buckingham

Appeared in the TV series Shadow of the Tudors, The Collection and Le Jeu de la Dame, where he played journalist DL Townes, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd Portrays the Duke of Buckingham in a diptych.

In his novel, Alexandre Dumas gives him a romantic role because he is in love with Queen Anne of Austria, already married to the King of France. In the feature film, the Musketeers will help him to save the dignity of the queen.
