Tonight, TF1 will broadcast two new episodes of The Promise. For this occasion, Narcissus’s father, Matisse’s translator, entrusted Allocine with the microphone on this new burst of episodes and more specifically on the evolution of his character, his love story with Agnes (Léonie Simaga) and the crisis of the couple that it is about. to pass What will announce the season full of twists and turns.
Alocine: Mathis has changed a lot since the first episode of the series, I promise. How do you see its development?
Father Narcissus : Mathis becomes a much more responsible person. Over the seasons, he managed to find his place and heal his wounds. However, behind this development there are small wounds that are not fully healed and cause big problems. It takes a toll on him, but he’s a man who doesn’t give up. Always manages to overcome things and move forward.
What appeals to you most about them?
His sincerity. Mathis is an honest, transparent and whole person. When he decides to invest in something, he puts his whole soul and whole personality into it. That’s definitely the part I like about it.
We promise that there is a series that deals with topics that concern everyone. Do you think this is the success of the series?
It is a choral series with different types of characters. There are enough different stories for the audience to go through one. To me, that’s what makes this series so successful.
I promise, at the end of season 2, Mathis and Agnes (Leon Simaga) made a decision to adopt Roses (Sandy Opium). What can you tell us, how will this story develop?
Mathis and Agnes decide to adopt Rosie, but there will be twists and turns because adoption is never easy. Stories from the past will resurface and take up a lot of space in the present and even become problematic. This will cause problems in places where we do not expect it.
Rose and Mathis have developed a very good relationship over the seasons. How will it develop in the next episodes?
Mathis understands Rose’s injuries and grief. He knows he will have to stay alert. He will have no choice because at some point things will get complicated. Rose will face difficult situations and luckily Mathis will be there for her. So he will be careful not to leave her alone at this time.
This season Mathis embarks on a new professional project by creating a marine racing team to sponsor a young sailor. How will this happen?
Mathis begins this adventure with a resonance of his own story, that of his father and La Rochelle. It is not a coincidence for him. If he ended up in this place, at this time, it was because he had to. But this racing stable is a few kilometers from where he lives and it will cause problems for his family. Problems that will leave the impression that there is no solution. There will be a lot of travel, but it will be a great adventure. Mathis will help Emil (Adil Dehbi), a young navigator who needs help to realize his dream and become a champion.
At the same time, Agnes experiences certain professional failures, which pushes her to realize her own dream. What creates some tension in the Matis-Agnes couple. Can we fear the worst?
absolutely ! Agnes put her life on hold for a long time so that Matisse could flourish, and she’s at a point in her life where she wants to make her dreams come true. As Mathis embarks on a racing stable project, a major rivalry will end, which will not be easy for the pair. And Mathis will think that their marriage is over.
What’s interesting this year is that we’re starting to get intimate with Agnes. We will find out where he comes from and what he dreamed about since childhood. We are going to my mother and her cousin. That’s what I think is so brilliant about this character, and what allows us to understand the twists that Matisse and Agnes get caught up in.
In this new season, we’re really exploring more of Agnes and Mathis as a couple, past or present. If they had the image of a balanced couple until now, many flaws will appear. Did you like to spoil the image of this perfect couple a little?
Yes! We all know that there is no perfect couple. On the surface you may think that everything is fine and they are perfectly balanced, but when you scratch a little, you realize that this is not the case. In a couple, from the moment one of them gives in more than the other, there will definitely be turbulence. So they will have to find some balance, but Agnes and Mathis don’t want to let go of certain things. They will invoke external solutions that are not necessarily correct. And then, it will call a lot of things into question. Super interesting. I really enjoyed it and that’s what I really enjoyed about this third season.
Michael (Guillaume Labe) will investigate Paul’s mysterious past. How will his findings affect Mattis and the rest of the Gallo family?
What is quite paradoxical is that Michael is the only one who wants to learn about Paul’s past. It’s not surprising either, because he was the one who suffered the most from her disappearance. He investigates to find out who this father was, with whom he was constantly in conflict during his teenage years. It is very important for Michael to investigate Paul’s past. What she discovers will shake her more than Maude (Marilou Berry) and Mathis.
In recent seasons, I promise you’ll be pretty serious about burnout. Today, the series deals with depression through the character of Tanguy. Moreover, what a very beautiful scene between Matisse, Tanguy and Emile. Is it important for you to talk about such important topics on television?
Important yes. This is what makes the general public aware of themselves in this series. We don’t lie. We don’t try to think that everything is beautiful and rosy. It is an attempt. Even if adoption itself is very beautiful, we also tell you about all the problems that come with it. Having siblings is great, but there are problems. Having a mother who wanted to be a great singer and who wasn’t, we also discuss all the things that come with that.
And then, let’s not fool ourselves, we are in a society that goes 100 an hour. Sometimes, we don’t even take the time to ask for updates from those around us. It’s just “no problem” and then we spend our days on social networks. However, people sometimes go very badly, there are burnouts and depressions. The fact of talking about it, opening the topic like this, I think will allow some people to speak freely. It is very important.
It is approached in a rather light tone, but it deals with deep things. And then, it’s transgenerational. No matter how old we are, we go through it. Tang, who takes this thread while Emily was there too. Mathis, on the other hand, doesn’t really know where to put himself, but he knows the symptoms. It makes for a pretty funny scene, but full of depth.
The season begins and ends with a flash forward to 2040. Did you enjoy dressing up for the scenes?
Yes. The challenge was quite interesting. You still have to wonder what these characters would look like 40 years from now. It was pretty cool. Anyway, we liked it. Then it went on a bit in terms of preparation, but eventually we quickly got into character. And then to see the children of our adult characters is quite surprising. Anyway, it was nice to see that Maud, Mathis, and Michael kept those links. We get the impression that every time confusion in this family is the end, but when we find it at this age, we find that the family remains. Even if there is a fight, they stay together. That’s what was beautiful.
What is your best memory to date or a scene that was particularly difficult to film?
This is the death of Matisse’s biological father. It was strong enough. We have developed a very close relationship with Bas Dem, who plays Amidu. We really exchanged and built something very powerful. Knowing that his death also marked his disappearance from the series was pretty intense. There was something completely inexplicable about this season. This scene was so powerful and heartfelt that it remains a special moment for me.
In the previous interview, you told us that you did not watch it This is us. have you done since
not always. is pending. I haven’t had a chance to watch This Is Us yet because I don’t allow myself to. I’ll wait until I promise it’s over to see what they’ve been up to in the US.
Looking forward to season 4 I promise, do you have any other projects you can tell us about?
I shot a series for France 2 called Ouija, which should be released soon. I share the bill with Bruno Solo. It is a very pleasant meeting.
