What happened to Mr. T?

What happened to Mr. T?

Icon of the 80s full of his charisma and owner of a large collection of jewelry, many lost his trail after ‘Rocky III’ and ‘The A-Team’. Let’s fix it.

Lawrence Turaudbetter known as Mr Twas born in Chicago on May 21, 1952. The son of a Protestant minister, he grew up with his four sisters and seven brothers in a three-bedroom apartment.

After a tough childhood, he began to stand out in high school, becoming the city’s wrestling champion. In the 70’s he enlisted in the army, where he obtained different prizes and recognitions, something that did not prevent his subsequent via crucis of thug professions. After years of gambling den bouncers not very recommendable, he became the bodyguard of anyone who could pay for his services. Some clients came to request that he “take care” of some other unfortunate, a step that good old Mr. T never took.

everything changed when Sylvester Stallone decided to give him one chance embodying Clubber Langthe antagonist of ‘Rocky III‘ (Sylvester Stallone, 1982), a role for which he quickly gained fame and which allowed him to appear in ‘The crazy taxi‘ (Joel Schumacher, 1983) and one of the series that marked the 80s: ‘The A-Team‘.

After embodying M.A. Barracus In the 97 episodes of the five seasons, Mr. T became a world celebrity. He participated sporadically in the WWF, made multiple appearances in series of the time and starred in all imaginable advertising campaigns.

He had his own animated series, ‘mr t‘, and another live action, ‘T&T‘, where he played a former boxer convicted of a homicide he didn’t commit. Yes again.

As the 1980s drew to a close, it began to look like a human anachronism. The commercial campaigns began to be scarce and he did not have much luck in the cinema, choosing projects such as the absolutely forgotten (and rightly so) ‘The crazy stop of the monsters‘ (Tom Stern, Alex Winter, 1993). Luckily, before facing bigger problems, he had one last moment of glory, possibly the peak of his career, when he participated as a guest of ‘The Great Game of the Goose‘.

In 1995 he was diagnosed with lymphoma, which he fought against until 2001, which is why his presence in the media during those years was limited to small cameos.

With his appearance in ‘Not another stupid American movie‘ (Joel Gallen, 2001) celebrated his recovery. Since then he has participated putting his voice in different animation series for which he has appeared playing himself, such as ‘The Simpson‘, ‘Johnny Bravo‘ Hi crazy ‘Celebrity Deathmatch‘.

Among his latest works, another participation as a dubbing actor in ‘rain of meatballs‘ (Philip Lord, Christopher Miller, 2009), his role in the musical of old glories of Atlantic City called ‘I’m not dead‘ and an announcement of ‘world of warcraft‘ introducing the ultimate weapon: the Mohawk grenade.

In 2014 he finally entered the WWE Hall of Fame and in 2015 he starred in a DIY show called ‘I Pity the Tool‘ of which, inexplicably, they only aired one chapter.

This is all very well, but what are you doing now? What’s Mr. T up to? Well, in 2017, at the age of 65, he participated in the latest edition of the dance program ‘Dancing with the Stars‘. We leave you with the best appearances of him.
