What is it about? After being laid off, Antoine, a former HRD of a large DIY brand, chose to stay at home to take care of his 4 children. A new job that he does mostly alone because his wife Isabelle is too busy with her new job as a lawyer.
Over the course of two years in the Mercier household, the roles have clearly reversed, and Antoine begins to do less and less in the face of the energy his small family demands of him. That’s why a 10-day retreat in the mountains promises to be God’s gift to the stay-at-home dad he’s become.
Alas, Isabelle’s firm’s unexpected romance falls from the sky. He has no choice but to let Antoine ski alone for 10 days with 4 kids and most importantly: without his mother!
Different winks
In 10 days still without a mother, Ludovic Bernard gave a nod to Camping (2006). So we can hear Frank Dubosky say – So we are not waiting for Antoine?referring to the famous sentence of Patrick Chirac’s character in Fabien Onteniente’s comedy (“So we’re not expecting Patrick?”). About other tributes presented in the film, the filmmaker specifies: “Bronze This is the comedy bible in the mountains! Patrice Leconte And Splendide, we’ll never do better.”
“for that shines, the idea came about a bit by accident when seeing these twin sisters in a casting. We dressed like in the movie Kubrick And makes Frank walk past the famous room 237. I like to have fun with cinema codes that are also familiar to the audience. These common references make it possible to unite the room. Likewise, some of Frank’s looks in front of the camera, which I find delicious, are intended to establish a connection with the viewer, to connect him directly to the film as a form of communion.”

The birth of this sequel
Ludovic Bernard came up with the idea of a sequel to 10 Days Without a Mother while filming this comedy, which was released in February 2020 (and was a huge success in cinemas with almost 1.2 million admissions). With Frank Dubosk, the director quickly asked himself what he could tell the story to continue, and where he could take this whole family:
“Of course, the success helped clear things up and we immediately started the writing phase. What we wanted was to effectively reverse the roles. Antoine, fired from his job, finds himself a housewife, which is why Isabelle has taken up a full-time job as a lawyer. And created her company: it was this imbalance that interested us, We wanted to see how he got us into comedy.

After 2 years…
10 Days Without a Mother is still evolving from 10 Days Without a Mother two years later. Meanwhile, the young actors of the first film have changed a bit… “I’m lucky that Mathieu Ouillon They have sons about the age of the heroes. But I also took the time to see the actors together a few times, to hear what they could say to each other, the little silly things they could talk about.
“They were happy to meet again and I was very impressed by their participation and their solidarity. We were very much inspired by them. Swan and Violet matured Ilan Always spinning and Evan It’s even more disturbing than it was in the first movie. His role is also more important and the text to be studied did not scare him. This kid is very talented.Ludovic Bernard recalls.

Direction Courchevel!
Ludovic Bernard and his team filmed in Courchevel, the famous winter sports resort of Savoiere. The director recalls: “Filming in the mountains is not particularly difficult, especially since we all live in the same place. The only difficulty was the weather, which we had to carefully study every day. We had to juggle its limitations, change the shooting days. Because I wanted the sun and the blue sky on the screen, it was perfect And sublime conditions for being in the mountains.”

opposite roles
In this sequel, Antoine never fails to say that he is unemployed. The character is really exposed to the social pressures that those who have lost their jobs must face. Ludovic Bernard entrusts: “To avoid this feeling of humiliation, he never actually says he’s unemployed, but works remotely, a notion that has become the source of a joke – ‘more in front of the TV than work’ – and which we have fun with.”
“Having a job is also a source of satisfaction, it’s good for the ego. When you have to leave, I talk about it because I love my job and I’m happy, it’s obviously difficult Antoine doesn’t have these feelings anymore. He really wants to find them again, but we can see that he wants revenge. Our point is that we want to see Antoine suffer, but we also want “he’s struggling, let him come back positive.”
