‘South Park’: Paramount Returns to Warner Bros. to Claim $52 Million Debt; understand

Chaotic atmosphere in “South Park” – and, this time, it is not the fault of Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh and Kenny McCormick.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery sued Paramount Global for the exclusive broadcast rights to “South Park”, arguing that Paramount had broken an agreement and would divert the content in question to its own streaming service. Paramount+. The lawsuit seeks $200 million in damages in the lawsuit, alleging that the company sought to “unfairly take advantage of Warner HBO by violating its contract and stealing its content.”

On Wednesday (19), Paramount disputed the lawsuit, saying WBD owes two payments of $26 million each, totaling $52 million. That counterclaim filed in response to Warner was filed in New York Supreme Court, and it said the unpaid fees cover the 318 episodes of “South Park” that aired on HBO Max.

“South Park Studios has complied with the terms of the written Term Sheet. Not WarnerMedia,” describes the lawsuit filed by Paramount. “Instead, despite continuing to leverage and profit from the more than 300 episodes of ‘South Park’ that are still available to stream on HBO Max, Warner Media refuses to pay tens of millions of dollars in licensing royalties owed to South Park Studios for the right to exploit this content”.

In 2019, WBD paid $500 million in royalties to air 23 seasons of South Park, including three new seasons (24, 25, and 26), which were hitherto unreleased. This agreement will expire in June 2025.
