2023 is definitely the year of video game adaptations: after the success of The Last of Us, HBO, and the film Super Mario Bros., the series based on the Twisted Metal franchise arrives, and the first teaser is about to be disclosed .
The Twisted Metal series is not as well known as the other two mentioned, but it was already quite popular, especially in the era of Sony’s first PlayStation. In its foray into franchise adaptations, the Japanese producer has closed a deal with Peacock streaming to produce a series.
The first teaser can be seen below. It doesn’t show much of the story, but you can tell the graphics got a lot of attention for the production:
Twisted Metal stars Anthony Mackie (the new Captain America) and also actress Stephanie Beatriz (known for her participation in the Brooklyn 99 series). Mackie will play “a motor geek who is given the chance at a better life,” while Beatriz will play “an axe-wielding car thief.” The killer clown Sweet Tooth, one of the most popular characters in the franchise, also appears in the short teaser.
Twisted Metal Season 1 premieres on the Peacock streaming service on July 27. There will be 10 episodes in total.
In addition to The Last of Us and Twisted Metal, Sony has also confirmed the adaptation of other franchises. God of War and Horizon will be made into series, while Gran Turismo and Ghost of Tsushima will be made into movies.
