Renewed for a season 35 and 36, everyone wonders if ‘The Simpsons’ will end one day, including the actor who, until recently, also gave life to Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.
‘The Simpsons’ voice actor tasked with bringing Moe Szyslak and Chief Wiggum to life, Hank Azaria, has predicted when the series will end and revealed whether or not he plans to leave the beloved animated series.
Speaking to PeopleAzaria, the actor who also voices the Comic Book Clerk among others, said he currently has no plans to leave the series.
“Well, it would be silly to leave because I get paid in the first place,” Azaria quipped. Reflecting on the future of the series, which she has been a part of since its inception in 1989, Azaria said, “I wonder about it, too.” Given that “The Simpsons” had been renewed for seasons 35 and 36 earlier this year, Azaria said he thinks it will “probably” make it to season 40.
You know, we’re doing seasons 35 and 36. I guess it’ll probably make it to 40. It seems to be going well.
Speaking about the changing standards for a hit series from TV to streaming, Azaria said “The Simpsons” is still doing well and there are no plans to end it yet.
The standards of what it means to get it right have been changed a lot by streaming for TV in the last 10-15 years. But whatever the standards are now, we seem to be doing just fine. People still enjoy doing it. It seems that they want the series. So I guess we move on. Voices don’t really age. So we can keep doing it. And animation doesn’t get old. The animation improves and is faster.
In 2020, Azaria stepped down as the voice of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon following controversy surrounding the character.
He later apologized for his involvement in the racially problematic character, saying, “I apologize for my part in creating and participating in that.”
All ‘The Simpsons’ is and will be available on Disney + Spain.
