The platform broke the news Monday via a video posted on Twitter in which Lyle Menendez can be heard calling police after the killings, crying into the phone and telling the operator that his mother and father had been shot. The new season is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2024.
Jose and Mary Luis “Kitty” Menendez were shot and killed in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. Eric and Lyle were not the first suspects in the murders, but police began investigating their involvement in the following months.
Eric finally confesses to his psychologist, Jerome Oziel, who tells his lover, Judalon Smith. Smith will be a key witness in the brothers’ trial. During the trial, the brothers said they committed the murders in self-defense after being abused all their lives by their parents, especially their father.
They were tried separately and two juries deadlocked, ending the trial. They were later tried together and found guilty. Eric and Lyle were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and remain incarcerated in Southern California.
