DMAE ensures that the water quality in Porto Alegre has returned to normal, after changes in the taste and smell of the water have been reported. The agency explained that the cause of these changes was linked to climatic conditions, such as the current of the Jacuí, Caí, Sinos and Gravataí rivers, which ended up carrying earth, sand and vegetation residues to the Guaíba after the rains.

The Department said the number of complaints about the taste and smell of water had decreased in recent days, with only two calls being recorded on Friday (12), according to the official City Hall channel. The general manager of DMAE, Maurício Loss, believes that the decrease in the number of complaints is due to the drier weather conditions.

DMAE has carried out tests to exclude the possibility of algal blooms near collection points and is administering doses of chlorine dioxide in water treatment to reduce its taste and odor. In this way, the population can rest assured about the quality of the water that reaches their homes.
