Tonight on TV: We find out why Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar in this heartbreaking performance drama

Seven years after staging his successful play called The Father, Florian Zeller decides to adapt it for the big screen himself and takes the opportunity to make his dream come true. Indeed, the main role – an octogenarian with increasingly impaired memory – is dedicated to the famous British actor Anthony Hopkins, whom he admires greatly.

Therefore, for his first feature film, Florian Zeller wrote the script in English with Christopher Hampton as the main actor. The latter, who accepts the proposal, will certainly find there one of the most beautiful roles of his career.

Known as a true chameleon who can blend into different characters, Anthony Hopkins once again proves his talent, playing on his own insecurities and his own aging in an absolutely moving performance.

Thus, he was rightfully awarded the Oscar for Best Actor in 2021 and remains the oldest actor to receive the award.

On AlloCiné, The Father has a solid 4.3/5 average.
