Musician Roberto de Carvalho, who spent 47 years with Rita Lee, recalled the artist’s last moments in an interview with Fantástico
Last Sunday, 14th, a special and exciting conversation with Roberto Carvalho, widower of successful singer and songwriter Rita Lee, who passed away on May 8, 2023, aged 75. The interview was conducted by the journalist Renata Ceribellia day after the artist’s wake, and broadcast by Fantasticfrom TVGlobo.

In 2021 Rita Lee would have only 3 months to live
Also during the interview, Roberto de Carvalho recalled the moment of Rita Lee’s lung cancer diagnosis, in May 2021. The tumor discovered in an advanced stage was already in the stage of metastasis. At that time, doctors gave the singer 3 to 4 months to live.
As Roberto himself said, Rita experienced a miracle. Two years have passed since the discovery of the tumor. On the contrary, it was not easy to deal with the disease.
“She approached the business with stoicism. She has had chemotherapy several times […] There have been very painful moments. Fear, anxiety, dread. Together with João, my son, the two of us took care of the whole situation. And we tried to get as much information as possible.”remembered.

In an official statement, Rita Lee’s family shared that the singer died in her apartment in the city of São Paulo along with her family. To the Fantastic, Roberto de Carvalho provided more details on the timing of the match. He even compared his wife to a child, a bird, for her calmness during the farewell.
“She lost her hair, she lost the ability to walk, to think. However, her last moments were light, calm, sweet. We were all together with her. We set up a hospital room and, in the last phase, in bed, she looked like a little girl, a little bird. The little breath like that, and stopped. She went away in peace”finished.
