Entrepreneur and book author became the oldest woman to grace the cover of the American magazine
Martha Stewart just entered the history of the magazine Sports illustrated. The famous businesswoman was announced on the cover of the magazine wearing a bathing suit at the age of 81. The feat makes Martha the oldest model to be on the cover of the publication in history.
Martha worked as a model as a teenager and built her fame and empire after founding Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Through her eponymous company, the Sports Illustrated cover model reaches more than 100 million people a month and has authored more than 100 books in her lifetime.
Martha lives by two mottos. “When You Just Change, It’s Over” and “Learn Something New Every Day” are used as guides in Stewart’s day-to-day life and helped the entrepreneur muster the courage to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
“When I heard I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I was like, oh, that’s pretty cool, I’m going to be the oldest person to ever appear on a Sports Illustrated cover,” Stewart casually admits. “And I don’t really think about age, but I thought it was kind of historic,” Martha commented in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
“Never in your life [Martha] she lets her circumstances determine her outcome,” says the magazine’s managing editor, MJ Day. “She has moved with the times — always one step ahead, it seems — to build a far-reaching business empire.”
Martha Stewart joins Megan Fox, Kim Petras and Brooks Nader, women honored in 2023 with the May covers of Sports Illustrated.
