Flávio Dino and Silvio Almeida have released statements of support for the Brazilian player, as well as questioning Spanish laws
Flávio Dino and Silvio Almeida, ministers of Lulamade statements this Monday 22, giving support to the Brazilian Vini Jr, victim of racism the day before, in a match between Real Madrid and Valenciafor the Spanish league.
The justice minister says Brazil can take exceptional measures if the Spanish government fails, demanding harsh punishments for the aggressors.
“We are, within the framework of the Ministry of Justice, studying the possibility of applying a principle called ‘extraterritoriality’. The penal code provides that, in some exceptional situations, it is possible that, in cases of crimes against Brazilians, even abroad, Brazilian law is applied,” Dino said at a Lide event.
Despite this, Dino believes that Spain will not be able to ‘do its part’ and should take drastic measures.
The Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship, Silvio Almeida, repudiated this Monday (22/5) the racist attacks suffered by the player. In a press release, he underlined the “silence conniving with racism” on the part of the Spanish authorities, European football organizations and some of the press.
“It is important that we know that this is not an isolated case. Vini Jr. has already been the victim of racist abuse on other occasions, and it seems to me that the Spanish authorities, the organizations that deal with football in Europe, the Spanish league , the sponsors, part of the press, were simply colluding with the racist acts,” Silvio said.
“This racist violence against Vini Jr. demonstrates that there is a much bigger problem, and one that tends to spread far beyond the field and the stadium. So, we have a political problem, far reaching, which also justifies the demonstrations of the Brazilian State”, underlined Silvio Almeida.
The minister also stressed that Vini is one of the biggest players in the world, but even so suffers from racism in Spain, fearing the treatment of other blacks in Europe.
“We wonder how the Brazilian community is treated, how other black men and women who are in Europe, who are in Spain are treated,” he commented.
“There is something very wrong that is happening in Europe, it is happening in European football, in particular, and I think it denotes that more serious things are happening there from the point of view of social relations,” underlined the Minister of Human Rights .
