What are the Brazilians’ favorite streams?

When it comes to music streaming, Spotify is still ahead of rivals as the “expensive” platform of Brazilians. According to a Comscore survey based on data collected between February 2022 and February 2023, the service has a whopping 38.6 million users.

In terms of video, Netflix is by far the absolute leader. There are 50.6 million users in the country, a number that could change in the coming months with the arrival of the new subscription billing policy. From January to March 2023, the service also led interactions on social networks, with 85 million.

Globoplay is by far in second place, with 18.2 million monthly users. Amazon’s Prime Video closed the podium in third place (14.65 million).

In the end, the results weren’t all that surprising. What the future of Netflix looks like in the country remains to be seen. Last week, the platform confirmed that it will charge users an additional fee for account sharing, something the company already practices in some countries.

In essence, only those who live in the same household will be able to access the stream using a single account, which has led to protests and the cancellation of subscriptions by multiple subscribers even before the measure takes effect here.

The industry giant has been dealing with declining revenue and hopes the new strategy will help turn the tables. The company believes that by monetizing more users it will be able to recoup some of the revenue it lost in previous years. However, the success of the strategy may not be as simple as expected. We talk more about it here.
