Swimming: the Brazil Trophy ends with the indices for the World Cup

Marcelo Chierighini, Guilherme Caribé, Viviane Jungblut and Beatriz Dizotti hit the index this Saturday; Pinheiros is absolute champion

The Brazil Swimming Trophy concluded this Saturday evening (03), at the Complexo Esportivo Santos Dumont in Recife, with four new indices for the Swimming World Cup in Fukuoka, Japan: two in the men’s 50m freestyle and two in the 1.500m free female. The CBDA has decided, also this Saturday, that all relays will go to the World Championships, and the number of athletes called up and indexed has risen to 26.

In the fastest swim event, places went to Marcelo Chierighini, from Pinheiros, who swam to win the event with 22s, followed by Guilherme Caribé, from Flamengo, with 22s01. Pedro Spajari, from SESI, closed the podium in third place (22s13).

“This is a very difficult test to swim and you have to have everything right. I haven’t swum in this under 22 event for 10 years and it will be another small regatta alongside the Caribbean”, highlighted Chierighini.

In the women’s 1500m freestyle, Viviane Jungblut and Beatriz Dizotti swam under index for the Fukuoka World Championship. Viviane Jungblut, of Grêmio Náutico União, won the race with 16m14s76. Bia, from Unisanta, won the silver medal (16m16s93) and Gabrielle Roncatto, from Unisanta, the bronze, with 16m36s97.

“I am very happy to have an extra index, because I got sick from yesterday to today and I had to overcome this adversity,” added Vivi.

“I think the times are far from what I wanted, but I’m happy to reach other World Cups and be able to swim alongside Vivi,” said Beatriz Dizotti.

The 2023 Troféu Brasil was won by Pinheiros, who reached his 19th cup, with 2109 points. Minas Tênis Clube was second, with 1635.50 points, and Unisanta third, with 1518 points.
