For Lady Gaga’s song in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ we compiled the hits of the most pop Tom Cruise, with OneRepublic, Kenny Loggins and Berlin, take my breath away!
‘Top Gun (Idols of the air)‘ arrived in 1986 to become the essence of its own decade. With Tony Scott at the controls, music by Harold Faltermeyer Y Jerry Bruckheimer marking the step from production, it would be difficult to understand the film without taking into account the participation of a Tom Cruise who wanted to eat the world.
35 years after its premiere, ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ (Joseph Kosinski, 2021) brings the producer and the star together again to achieve box office records and satisfy an audience eager for adrenaline and, yes, great songs.
And it is that since Columbia Records published the soundtrack of ‘top gun‘ in 1986, its list of songs has become essential to understand the time, it is a magical decade that runs from 85 to 95 and about which two of the main people responsible for what we hear in Scott’s film have a lot to say : Harold Faltermeyer Y Giorgio Moroder.
Aware of all this, for ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ they wanted to have the very Lady Gaga as responsible for the main theme of the film and with the teacher hans zimmer at the helm of its soundtrack. The result was even better than expected.
To celebrate it, we remember the best four great songs (and their respective video clips) that will make us feel like true idols of the air, which one do you prefer?
‘Danger Zone’, by Kenny Loggins
Made of Giorgio Moroder and with lyrics Tom Whitlock (mechanic of the musician who, in the middle of a repair, told him that he was also a lyricist), ‘Danger Zone‘ was commissioned by the producers Jerry Bruckheimer Y don simpson who, together with the music supervisor Michael Dilbeckthey had more than 300 songs to use in ‘top gun‘ that didn’t quite fit the movie.
With the mythical band Toto as the first ones in charge of recording the final version, different legal problems meant that, finally, it was Kenny Loggins the one that gave the final form to the product. It was the second biggest hit of his career, second only to his ‘footloose‘ from 1984.
The video clip is signed by himself Tony Scott.
‘Take My Breath Away’, by Berlin
Thrilled with the result, Bruckheimer asked Moroder for a slower song for a romantic scene. The first mock-up of ‘Take My Breath Away‘, which already included the characteristic bass and synth sound, was returned to the hands of Whitlock, the mechanic, and he wrote the lyrics while driving home from the studio. Impressed with the result, Tony Scott decided to film new romantic scenes between Tom Cruise Y Kelly McGillis to include the song.
Initially offered to The Motelsthe american new wave band Berlin It was the one that ended up interpreting the composition of which Moroder has confessed to feel most proud of his entire career.
The video clip was shot by Marcelo Elder along with scenes from Scott’s film.
‘Hold My Hand’, by Lady Gaga
Composed and written by Lady Gaga Y BloodPop®the artist has admitted that she was working on the song for years and, until the end, she failed to realize the multiple layers that encompassed the heart of the film, her own psyche and the nature of the world we lived in while writing it. .
“We played it in Hans Zimmer’s studio and Tom was blown away,” notes the producer, Jerry Bruckheimer. “Hans liked it so much that he said, ‘I’m going to take that tune and use it as a love theme in the movie.'”
Joseph Kosinskidirector of ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘, has been responsible for the video clip.
‘I Ain’t Worried’, by OneRepublic
The Colorado Springs Gang OneRepublic has been in charge of signing another of the original songs for the film, ‘I Ain’t Worried‘, presented with a video clip directed by isaac rentz.
‘Top Gun Anthem’, by Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga, Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe
We cannot close with another melody than the one composed by Harold Faltermeyer in its ‘Top Gun Anthem‘, the main theme of the original film that, in this version, has been updated by Lady Gaga, hans zimmer Y Lorne Balfe.
