Corinthians lost 3-0 to Independiente Del Valle, Ecuador and was eliminated from the Copa Libertadores. However, Timão repeated the feat of falling in the group stage of the continental competition, after 46 years. The last time was in 1977.
On that occasion, Corinthians fell into group 3, along with Internacional, El Nacional and Deportivo Cuenca, both from Ecuador. Only one qualified for the knockout stage and Colorado ended up advancing.
Incidentally, these were the only times Corinthians fell in the group stage to Libertadores. It is true that in 2011 and 2020 Timão fell in the preliminary round of the competition. However, in other editions of the tournament, the Parque São Jorge team has reached at least the round of 16.
Fans charge Corinthians players after the match
Shortly after the final whistle of the match, members of the organized black and white supporters arrived near the players’ exit to the changing rooms and charged. Captain and idol Cássio went to the fans to talk, asked them to calm down, but heard strong calls for Corinthians to improve this season.
While giving an interview after the match, Renato Augusto was also cursed. And Yuri Albert and Gil heard screams asking them to leave the cast. A group of supporters also tried to go to the Corinthians dressing room but ended up blocked by club security.
