What if Robin Williams played the Joker? it almost happened

During the pre-production process of the Batman 1989, directed by Tim Burton, Warner Bros already knew who they wanted to cast to play the Joker: Jack Nicholson. The mood of the film was uncertain, Michael Keaton was too new, and the studio wanted someone with experience (and celebrity). The only problem is that Nicholson was not interested in playing the villain. Who he was, in fact, was Robin Williams.

Robin Williams as the Joker?

Jack Nicholson has already racked up nominations and two recent Oscar wins and wasn’t interested in doing makeup and dressing like a clown.

On the flip side, Robin Williams has shown that she wants the role. She came from more popular movies like good morning vietnam (1987), also nominated for an Oscar, and was a huge fan of comics, especially Batman.

Warner Bros. even offered the role of the Joker to the actor, but that’s not the story we know.

What happened?

What the actor said about losing the role

In life, the actor came to comment on the case.

I replied (confirming interest in the role) but was told it was too late. They said they contacted Jack over the weekend because I didn’t respond right away. I said, “You gave me until Monday, I replied before the deadline.” But that was just to pick Jack.
