Jenna Ortega and Christina Ricci will star in the new live-action spin-off focused on Wednesday Addams
Tim Burton’s debut on television will be a new adaptation for Netflix of ‘The Addams Family’, the comic strip created by Charles Addams in 1937 and published in The New Yorker.
‘wednesday‘ will focus on the adolescence of wednesday addamsthe character played by Christina Ricci in the two films directed by Barry Sonnenfeld in the 1990s, and it will be the first live-action adaptation since 1998, when Dave Payne’s telefilm ‘The Addams Family: The Reunion‘ and the Canadian series ‘The New Addams Family‘, both with Nicole Fugere in the role of Wednesday.
‘Wednesday’ will coexist with the animated films of ‘The Addams Family‘ that have recently been released in theaters around the world and that could end with a third installment that would shape a new trilogy. Wednesday’s voice in these films is provided by Chloë Grace Moretz.
‘Wednesday’, Synopsis
The spin-off will consist of 8 episodes and it will be a coming-of-age, written by the creators of ‘Smallville’ Al Gough and Miles Miller and directed by Tim Burton, and will focus on Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That will be where the girl tries to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous murder spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery involving her parents 25 years ago, all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.

Since the news broke that Tim Burton was going to direct a series on the character of Wednesday Addams for Netflix, the rumors (and the wishes of fans from all over the world) of having Christina Ricci on ‘Wednesday’ have been constant… And now we can say that it’s official.
The actress who played young Wednesday Addams in both of Barry Sonnenfeld’s early ’90s films will have a major role in the series, though it won’t be Wednesday adult. The character will continue to be a teenager, and the person in charge of interpreting her will be Jenna Ortegawhich we can see in the latest installment of ‘Scream’ and in the next slasher of Ti West ‘X’.
Nor will we see Ricci in the skin of Morticia Addamsthe matriarch of the family, since this role is reserved for Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Although Ricci’s character is still a mystery, what we do know is that he is the one he was destined to play. Thora Birchwho left production at the beginning due to family problems, and who will be a regular character and not just a cameo.

Netflix has announced on Twitter that the first trailer for ‘Wednesday’ will be released next week, as part of the ‘Geeked Week’ events.
