“Top Gun: Maverick” hit theaters in late May and broke box office records by becoming the biggest preview in Paramount Pictures history. The film is the sequel to “Top Gun”, 1986, an original film considered a classic and which also won the hearts of critics of the time.
But if “Top Gun” was already a hit, why wasn’t a sequel released sooner?
According to “Top Gun: Maverick” editor Billy Weber, in an interview with THRone of the reasons the sequel was not released earlier was the production difficulty due to the long period of filling action scenes and the demand for new takes without falling into “more or less the same”.
“The studio knew how difficult it was to put together and create what we did. I think it was years and years before they brought it out. There was no longer a fragment of the film [de voo] that we do not use and that we could use. Everything. In fact, we probably used some shots two or three times, ”Weber said, comparing the production of the previous film with the current one, as it was present in both.
“Top Gun: Maverick” is set more than 30 years after the original, following the real-life time frame. Relived by Tom Cruise, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell returns to the TOPGUN program to prepare a small group of the Navy’s best pilots for a near-impossible mission. In addition to Cruise, Val Kilmer also reprized the role of Tom Kazanski and even made his debut with Miles Teller (“Fantastic Four”) as Bradley Bradshaw.
According to CBR, “Maverick” has so far grossed a worldwide total of $ 434.9 million, not counting the Chinese market, where the film has yet to be released.
Recently, Teller told the LADbible site about the adventure the film was shooting and that, in a specific scene, he thought he was going to die. “I definitely had a moment where I thought I was going to die. There was a sequence where we were going straight to the ground, where something called maximum traction is done. You are very close to the ground and at the last second you raise the lever, which is really difficult for the driver ”.
