After a hit series, French superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir finally got a movie in cinemas. Written and directed by Jeremy Zag, the prodigious producer of the series, the film takes the characters back to their roots.
Ladybug and Cat Noir must team up to take on Butterfly and her horde of super villains as they threaten to destroy Paris. But as the two heroes get closer, Marinette doesn’t know that behind her mysterious accomplice is Adrien, a classmate she’s in love with…
During the exhibition’s conference and last September, AlloCiné was able to speak with the director, who told us that he originally thought of Marinette’s story as a feature film, not as a TV series. Due to the lack of budget, the project became a series with the success that we know…
8 years after the French heroes appeared on the small screen, Ladybug and Cat Noir sat down in dark rooms for the first time. asked about a potential sequel, Jeremy Zag Tells us to be ready to make other films if there is success. familiarity.
AlloCiné: The Miraculous series is a true “success story”. Did you expect this?
Jeremy Zag : First of all, “Miracle” was thought of as a film. But 10 or 12 years ago, it was a bit difficult for me to make a film of this size, which would be a big show for the whole family and an event.
So we wrote a high-quality series in large formats. 22 episodes of 26 minutes each, always keeping the Paris postcard setting, love story, crossover, iconic characters…
The series was presented in this format and became a worldwide phenomenon. People fell in love with our heroes. Because Ladybug and Cat Noir are normal teenagers before they’re superheroes, and these characters help our audience discover themselves throughout history.
Marinette is scared, she’s clumsy, in love, shy… she’ll realize that when she has the mask on, she becomes Ladybug’s superhero, but above all, she’ll realize that the real hero is behind the mask. Everyone is there and feeling good.

AlloCiné: How does the film fit into the timeline of the series?
The film goes back to the origins of the characters. We were able to see everything bigger, we were lucky to have a significant budget of around 80 million euros.
This is a movie about how Marinette becomes Ladybug and Adrien becomes Chat Noir. It’s about their love story and, above all, the film has a special bias: it’s also a musical. There are great action scenes and songs.
But the goal was to be able to tell the origins and stories of Ladybug and Cat Noir to someone, even someone who wasn’t familiar with the franchise. So we’re going to be a little broader in the story and hope that it will appeal to the whole family and everyone will learn something different depending on their age and have a good time.
I think that people who are not at all familiar with the series and its universe will find something very special, very iconic. Because superheroes with a love story in Paris, it seems very obvious and at the same time, it didn’t exist before.

We were really surrounded by the best to make this film. We’ve been lucky to have some incredible talent on board. It’s a great show made in France, we’re very happy and we hope the world appreciates it.
AlloCiné: Exactly, if the community appreciates, could this be the start of a franchise?
Miracle, already a franchise. The series is aired in 120 countries of the world. Manufactured products exist all over the world.
It’s Disney Princess meets Marvel.
On the film side, we’re starting this first film, which is a genre that’s never been seen before. It’s musical superheroes, so it’s Disney Princess Meets Marvel, and we hope you enjoy it.
And if so, yes, we’d love to tell you a lot of movies with songs and action like we did.
We would love to tell you the story of many movies with song and action like we did.
We continue the series in parallel, of course. We’re in full production of seasons six and seven and we’re developing other characters around the world, so there are characters like Lady Dragon in Shanghai, we have another character in Rio, others in New York.
We are expanding our world of superheroes everywhere to protect the world and inspire children around the world to help them believe in themselves. Because this is our fundamental goal.
