Like any self-respecting criminal and spy, Raymond Reddington (James Spader) always needs a good pilot to rely on if he needs to escape unexpectedly. And Blacklist fans know it all too well, that loyal page is the mysterious Edward.
Since the launch of Blacklist, we’ve heard a lot about him, but we’ve never seen his face before. For more than 200 episodes, Edward remained in the cockpit of the plane, speaking all of his lines over an intercom or off-camera.
But with Blacklist gearing up for next week, the writers have decided to finally lift the curtain on a mystery that has haunted fans for over 10 years. Season 10, episode 20, which aired this Thursday night on NBC, was indeed the scene of a surprise cameo by Andrew McCarthy, who slipped into the skin of this famous Edward for the occasion.
Surprising combinations
This isn’t the first time Andrew McCarthy and James Spader have responded. The two actors actually shared the poster quite often in films released in the 80s, including Pretty in Pink, in which they played two best friends Blaine McDonagh and Steph McKee.
The two actors were also “Brat package“, – the name was given to a group of American actors of the 80s who appeared especially in films aimed at young audiences. So this cameo is a small note for this key period in their career.
And if this is the first time that Andrew McCarthy has appeared in front of the camera, the comedian is a regular on the blacklist, as over the years he has directed no less than 26 episodes of the series, including three for the 10th season alone.
Explosive episode
After many twists and turns during this 10th season, Red found himself in the corner of Arthur Hudson, a member of Congress who was a little too curious. In episode 20, the character played by James Spader took refuge in his private airfield to escape the authorities.
That’s when Edward moved off screen and told Red that they were running out of time because the FBI was about to arrive. When the authorities manage to capture the criminal’s plane, it explodes.
But it was all just a plan to outwit the FBI. Red and Edward are actually alive and well, and they manage to escape once again with Vecha’s help.
The Blacklist finale airs Thursday, July 13 on NBC. However, the French public will have to wait until they discover the final episodes, as Série Club and TF1, which offer the detective series in the first and second broadcast windows, have not yet announced a date for season 9. As for the first 8. Seasons, they are now available on Netflix.
